Wee Wanderers
Nature Preschool
Exploration, Discovery, and Learning
Philosophy
Nature plays a vital role in the emotional, social, physical, and cognitive development in children. Every child is entitled to the freedom to explore nature and become one with the natural world.
At Wee Wanderers, we encourage the discovery of the natural world through a play-based inquiry curriculum following the philosophy of Reggio Emilia’s Emergent Child.
Children are encouraged to get muddy, jump in leaves, and dance in the rain.
Monday*Wednesday
Tuesday*Thursday
8:30-12:30
Each day your child will start off with a healthy and fresh breakfast and have a light snake before pick-up. I use locally sourced ingredients served on reusable plates and cups. I do not serve meat or cow milk. I serve soy, almond, or oat milk or water.
During the day, your child will be exploring nature, learning through play, create works of art, getting dirty, making new friends, learning empathy for living creatures, writing in journals, hearing stories, and playing games.
This is not a daycare. This is a nature-based preschool. Your child will not bring home a pre-made craft, worksheet, or coloring sheet. Your child will learn through play, they will create their own masterpieces, they will get dirty, wet, messy and have lots of adventures to talk about. They will also do experiments, learn about animals, the solar system, trees, bird, and other science and nature concepts.

About Me.....
I am Amy, a prized bull-frog catcher, snapping turtle wrangling, nature loving, mud jumping, and early childhood educating naturalist. Over the years, being a Navy spouse, I have moved many times, worked many places, and have held many titles. My favorite has been an early childhood outdoor educator.
It all started after I worked in preschools for years and I took a job as a Youth, School, and Family program’s educator at Norfolk Botanical Gardens in Norfolk, VA. I loved being outside and teaching all ages about our natural world and everything in it. My outdoor education career began. I have worked at various places and done many things. I have rescued and rehabbed many different animals. I have volunteered with penguins and swam with manatees. I can’t even count the times that I built campfires and shared s’mores with little ones. I have taught kindergarten and summer camps. Slept on the ground with middle schoolers, caught bullfrogs with 3-year-olds, and rolled over many logs looking for worms with toddlers. I have had many adventures. I have also worked some jobs that didn’t bring me outside as much. I was a childcare center director, an elementary school librarian, and a substitute teacher in public school. I still was able to work with children which was an adventure on its own.
My husband is retiring after a looonnnggg navy career. No more submarines for him. We moved to Maryland for his soon to be new job. I decided since we are settled, to make my dream of having my own nature preschool. So, we bought a house on 3 acres with a forest, stream, hiking trails, art barn, and wood shop and my journey is beginning. I am so excited to share my knowledge and experiences with your little ones as I am learning from them and watching them grow.
We have lots to discover, frogs to catch, bugs to hold, and birds to watch.
Best, Amy
